Can I download/use SmartWare for my older Passport?

I have an older MyBook, and was wondering if I can download/use the current SmartWare for backups to this?  I’m presently doing backups on my own, but would like to start automating this task.

Mod #: WD1600i032  (still hanging in there!)

sorry, but no you can’t.  it requires a “smartware” drive to function.

any other WD software applicable?

any backup software should work.  if you have windows xp, vista, or 7, you can use windows backup.
