Buying full WD Smartware enable WD Elements locking/unlocking?

Hey guys.

My parents offered me the WD Elements when i wanted the WD My Passport Ultra, since it already came with software. I’m not able to return the product, since it’s “not eligible for returning policy”. It did came, however, with a trial version of WD Smartware. I’ve noticed the Lock/Unlock funcionality isnt available.

So my question is: Does purchasing the full WD Smartware enable locking/unlocking the drive? Or is it something that is only available for some drives as a hardware feature?

Hello, unfortunately none of the Element drives support password protection or hardware encryption.
