Brand New My Passport 4TB ALWAYS BEEPS WHEN EJECTED!

Hi,

I JUST opened a brand new WD My Passport 4TB (Model: WDBYFT0040BBK-WESN) on 12/19/2016.

I am very concerned because I hear a beep noise EVERY TIME I UNPLUG the device from a computer. I always safely eject the hardware, so it’s not force-ejected. This occurs when safely ejecting from ANY computer, laptop, TV, etc.

_The beep noise can be heard here: Vocaroo | Online voice recorder

Can someone at WD tell me if this is normal behavior for a BRAND NEW My Passport 4TB? If not, can I get a replacement? I don’t want to risk losing data later down the line.

Thanks.

That’s the heads parking. Totally normal.

Thanks Tony for the input.

But that’s not listed as a normal noise to have?

I have about 6 other hard drives from WD and they never made that beep noise.

I have a 4TB My Passport Ultra … yes, the beep is normal for this drive.

Sure, i other My Passports that don’t beep … but none of them are 4TB … and none of use SMR (Shingled magnetic recording) which the 4TB My Passport Ultra does.

Joey’s back!

nope, slow day on other forums where i spend my time now

Well, welcome back anyway.

My 3TB ultra Beeps too when ejected. is it normal?

Maybe the cable problem

Relax, It has been confirmed above the 4TB beeps, so it may be safe to assume the 3TB doing so is normal as well. They are basically the same drive inside, minus perhaps one platter or head.

Thanks!
