Desperately need to move EVERYTHING from this mac tonight, registered online, still can’t find an answer. There is no back up option on the software???

Which Back up software are you trying to use?
Do you know how to set up Time Machine?
os x 10.9.5. Just bout “my passport” and no option for back up at all. Is it okay as brand new HD to use Time Machine for the first time as it warns everything on HD will be deleted?
If it’s brand new it’s ok if Time Machine asks you to reformat it, the only files on the external drive right now are the WD Apps that you can download from the WD website later.
tried time machine with “erase”, didn’t work.
There was an error preparing the Time Machine backup disk “My Passport”. Mediakit reports not enough space on the device for requested operation
Instead of going to Erase, click on Partition, make sure you’ve clicked on the WD My Passport not the partition underneath it. On partition layout select 1 partition, Format MAC OS Extended Journaled, then click on options and select Apple Partition Map then click on OK and then on apply.
Let me know if that works
it won’t recognise it at all now says its incompatible.
Reboot the computer and try to do it again
