I have a WD Passport Ultra attached to my W8.1 Dell…1T…
I back up the Dell as well as manually store files in the WD
Looking at Smartware My “source” is 177.6G
My WD is (top to bottom) 931.5 Total
Files 177.6
Addl files 739.8 (grayed out)
Ok when I go to Windows(D:) I see all of the files I manually added AND swstor.
Right click on swstor gives me a value of 757G…
When I add up all of the manually inserted I get ~ 140G
(all numbers are “close”)
I am almost out of space on my WD…
What do I need to do to free up space???
I DO NOT believe I have enough storage sitting around to move the manually added stuff …wipe the drive clean and put it back…
Assuming I CAN… do I just erase everything and put the “manual” data back…and do a fresh?? backup
Is there a way to look at the contents of “Additional”??
Thanks everyone…

Hello,
Sounds like you are backing the files with the smartware and also doing a manual backup.
As a recommendation, do a fresh start with either one of the methods, manual backups or using the software. That will allow you to save space on the drive and not having the data duplicated on the same location.

I dont see how I could be backing up manually and Smartware…
Currently:
on Home page…
Backup source
Excluded (Grey) 24.1 GB
Files (blue) 70.1
On “My PP”
Files (Blue) 70.1
Additional Files (Grey) 270,7
Right click My PP
I have some folders there that I put in manually,
And there is a folder
WD Smartware (must be backups)
Hover mouse over folder: 40.5
Why does this differ from 70.1?
When I right click on that folder and click properties…it says 248G
What is going on??
