Accessing networked drives

Hello,

I have 3 laptops in my house that are connected to our network at any given time. On laptop 1, there are two WD My Book desktop external HD’s attached via USB. I’ve mapped those two HD’s to network drives Y: and Z: on laptop 2, and can access and edit those drives from laptop 2 without issue. I installed WD Backup on laptop 2, but when I try to setup a backup schedule, the software cannot discover drives Y: or Z: to which the WD My Book drives are mapped. Is it possible to setup backup schedules from laptop 2 and laptop 3 so that backups are saved to either of the mapped drives that are attached to laptop 1 via USB? If not, how do I setup backup schedules for all the laptops that are on my network to be saved on the WD My Book drives?

Thanks, in advance, for any help or advise regarding this issue.

Thanks for the reply Logan.
Based on the following, it looks like WD Backup does not support wireless backups “WD Backup is a Windows only software for WD DAS (Direct Attached Storage).”

Is there any WD backup software that will support the backup scenario I described in my initial message? I don’t want to save backups to the cloud, I just want an on-site external HD connected to my network that all my PCs can backup to. Not sure why it wouldn’t be possible. If I can access and modify the content of the backup drive via “file explorer” remotely, why wouldn’t a backup software be able to do the same?

Meanwhile, I will search the interwebs for software that does… (fingers crossed). Last resort will be to buy two more HDs.

Thanks again.
