3TB My Book Spindown time

My newly purchased external 3TB WD HDD (external power source) takes a very long time to spin down after use, and it is by far the most noisy component in/with my computer. For instance, I used it last night, went to eat dinner, and when I returned, it was still spinning like mad. Not sure if it’s the HDD or the fan that’s causing so much noise, but it goes on for far too long. Is there a way to modify this, so that it spins down sooner? I imagine 3 - 5 minutes after use would be fine. Mobo: Asus Z68 PSU: 600W Green Earth Power USB: v3 OS: Windows 8 Boot drive: SSD I’ve also been wondering, what kind of WD drive is it? It seems substantially faster than my internal 1TB WD Green, but I’m not sure if the external is WD blue or black, or something else. Edit: oh hêll, this forum does not support paragraphs. Fun. Not.

Hi, installing Smartware you can have the option to set the sleep timer from the setup option. See below for the Smartware download link.

Check if you have the Microsoft .NET 4 Framework installed. Check the link below for the download link.

I have Windows 8. It comes with .net Frwork 4.5 pre-installed.

Any ideas?
