Recently I bought the 3TB My Book Essential. I enabled the back up software to do so on my internal HD files (not category). Anyhow, the HD never seems to come to a rest. I’m not constantly changing these files, so I’m hoping the HD will eventually sleep, and then awaken on demand.  I don’t like the sound nor the vibration of a constantly running external HD.

Any assistance is appreciated. Thank you.

Change the settings for a lesser time before it goes to sleep on Smartware. 

Go to settings > drive settings > Sleep Timer.

Or better yet, safely remove when not in use.
