hello. i have 2 WD my book 8 tb and want to connect them using usb hub.
both of them have their separate adaptor originally from WD,
can I connect them using usb hub without power addition ? is it safe for my WD ?
I afraid it would corrupt my HDD, but I really need hub because it’s always complicated to move file from one external HDD to another…
and for the reverse, I also have WD passport 2TB, connect using a usb hub with 5V 2A addition power. is it okay ? I found that wd passport only need 3,8-4,2W…
Thank you
I have an 8 Port USB Hub which came with a Power Adapter… you can plug as many External AC Powered Hard Drives into it as you like without the USB Hub power adaptor.
I have 2x WD Elements and 1x WD My Book all External AC Powered into the 8-Port USB Hub without using the Hub’s power adaptor and it works fine.
If you are using only 1 WD My Passport 2TB USB powered drive … then you don’t need the USB Hub power.
It’s only when you start using 2 or More USB Powered drives that you need to have the USB Port Power Adaptor connected.
The 2 WD My Book 8TB will be ok to use with a USB Hub no powered.
Lots of things can cause file corruption, so instead of “moving” files you should really be “copying” them to keep a backup in case of file corruption or worse, drive failure or enclosure failure.
For every Hard Drive i own, i have another one with a copy of the same data in case one of them fails. Which has happened to me in the past when i didn’t keep backups.
