1 TB WD Elements external will not work and freezes my computer when i try to access it

Just recently my Hd has stopped working. I plug it into the usb it makes the usual noise to say it has reconised it and the safely remove hardware icon shows up in the bottom right corner. I open My Computer and it does not respond, it responds with out the hard drive plugged in.

I have tried using different usb ports and still nothing

I have uninstalled the usb mass storage and started agian and still nothing

I have tried it on another lap top and it works on theirs?

I am using vista and would really appreciate any advise on how to solve this problem

Hi,

That sounds like a corrupted partition, have you tried using a data recovery software?

For troubleshooting purposes, have you tried the unit on a different computer?

I have tried it on my friends lap top and it does work

i will look into a data recovery option now to see how it goes
