WD External and Portable SSD External SSD for Windows

I want to save to an external 1.0TB WD HDD. It is in a dock connected with USB. I have the WD Smartware on both drives. I am assuming I only use it from the internal HDD. Cannot seem to get the software working. The external drive is visible in the internal drive directory. Any suggestions please.
