Download the firmware from the link in the first post on this thread. Not the updater, the firmware. Look for the link to 3.01.16a.
You might want to open that post in a separate window–you can follow its instructions once we get the unit connected.
Plug the USB cord into your computer (not a hub).
Turn the E250 off and put it on Hold so that the orange shows.
Open Windows Explorer, which is My Computer or Computer (XP or Vista) on your computer desktop.
Hold down the << button on the E250 and plug in the USB cord.
See if two drives pop up in Windows Explorer. Then follow the instructions for a manual firmware update.
The update will add something in Settings/System Settings : USB Mode. Change it to MSC and you can drag-and-drop your stuff onto the unit. For library books, you probably need to switch to MTP mode because that can send the codes for checking out and returning books. To use MTP mode, you also need Windows Media Player 10 or 11 on your computer–not WMP 9.
