E200v1 01.02.24 Firmware Download & Instructions

Yes, it is a version one, the back does not show that it is version 2, and the current firmware is 01.02.18A, not 01.02.24A, so it does not have the most recent version.

(ack accidently hit submit)

I’ve run the chck disk, I found it after I saw this thread, which actually -now- the sansa updater has finally recognized my device. (first time in over a year). I think that resolved my issues for now, though I was trying to find out how to re-format it and I couldn’t seem to find it, so either I’m blind or the instructions are just burried somewhere on the site.

OK, that confirms that, but the .18 version is a stable one, where the .24 can be a bit buggy. I never updated my v1. I left it on .18 and everything’s fine. Others have even reverted back to this version.

As I said, I think your problem lies in the corrupted files and is not a firmware issue though, so running ChkDsk and/or formatting it should solve it.

I really hope someone can help me.

My e260 (v1 I believe) keeps turning on by itself, and then turn back off the same way. When I try to turn it on, it turns off just a while later. I’ve already updated the firmware, but it didn’t make a difference…

First I thought the power button could be struck, then that it could be a virus, now i don’t have any idea… will I just have to smash it with a hammer too?

please help

You are joking rigt???

1- If you THINK you have a v1 but don’t know, please find out. The v1 and v2 work the same but they are totally different when it comes to troubleshooting. Look in the FAQ…

2- Try holding down the power button for 20seconds to do a “soft” reset.

3- If that doesn’t work, carefully unscrew the back and take the battery out. Hold the power button for 20seconds again, put batter back in, try it out…

It might just be stuck in a loop. Try re-setting it by pressing and holding the power button down for like 20 seconds or so. Then try it again. If it still can’t decide whether it wants to stay awake or go to sleep, it’s got more serious issues than what you can fix. Probably a resistor failing or something.

I’ve got a TV that does the same thing. It will work fine for months; then all of a sudden it will switch off by itself . . . and then on . . . it will do this for a while, increasing in frequency and then start scrolling backwards through the channels from 64 down to 2, continuously looping like that. The only way to shut it off at that point is to pull the plug.

This has been going on for years. I’ve had repairmen out several times. Each time they think they’ve found something different and it works when they leave. Then it will start up again, sometimes within an hour of them leaving, sometimes not again for months. If I let it ‘rest’ for a month or so then turn it on, it will work fine again, maybe for 2 hours, 2 days, 6 months, or a year or more. I have never seen anything like it before, and I’ve owned countless TV sets in my life.

I’m convinced it’s posessed. Thank goodness it hasn’t spun around and barfed pea soup on me yet. :smileyvery-happy:

But I digress . . . if your player doesn’t work right after trying the reset, get a new one. The prices are pretty reasonable now. If you get another e200 series, save the old one for spare parts (battery, face plate, etc.)

1- yes, I guess I was joking.

2- at the back of the player appears only “e260” so I think it is the v1, right?

3-well, I have already done this. holding the power button for 15, 20, 30, 40s, …a minute, nothing works.

I would like to buy the most recent products, but I’m from Brazil and the prices are too high - I’ll have to wait another cousin to go to the states again… ¬¬

but I will try to unscrew the thing to see if I can save The Thing!

Really is very frustrating! everytime I want to listen some music I have to fight with it, see wich one is the most stuborn! sometimes it stays on, but only after a good 30min turning on/off… Argh!!!

I’m convinced it’s posessed. Thank goodness it hasn’t spun around and barfed pea soup on me yet. :smileyvery-happy:  hhahahahahaha  - I feel the same way

Thank you for your help - at least now i know if there’s nothing I can do and stop worring!

Its not working at all. I called customer support as well and they sent me a link for downloading the firmware(which I’ve tried before and it still gives me an error code 1003) but I followed the instructions (opened and unzipped the file and unplugged my sansa and it went back to the same screen as I originally started off with: Load image failed Switch to recovery mode) I’m going to call again and ask …again Because my mp3 will not load the firmware as much as I have tried )

Thank you sooooooooooooo very much it worked out well:)

Does this firmware support  sdhc or not.  I love my player and it works for all it’s intended uses.  but i’d like to add 8gb of memory or more and this only comes on sdhc cards…pls advise before I buy one.

No.  None of the firmwares for v1 players support sdhc cards.  You are limited to a 2 GB card with v1 players, unless Rockbox firmware is used.  Only the v2 players can use sdhc cards natively.

Tapeworm, don’t you remember it was electronic techs that invented the word: Gremlins.

Thanks in advance

Hi

I have an e280, which has been great except for the upgrading thing. I don’t know if there’s any real need but it’s frustrating that it won’t do what it’s supposed to. Whether I use the updater or the direct copy method as per your excellent instructions, the thing refuses to update. It’s stuck on 01.0.07E and won’t accept anything else. I’ve used 3 different PCs, XP and Vista and all fail in the same way. The screen on the e280 says “Writing” then changes to “Connected” after the transfer but when I disconnect (either correctly from USB or by brute force) it sits there saying “Disconnected” and nothing happens. Eventually I give in and hold the menu button down and start again. It reloads the database but the version is still at 07E. Does anyone have any suggestions please? At least the damned thing still plays music but I’m losing patience.

Many thanks

N

Me again, just realised I put the version incorrectly. It’s actually 01.02.07E. And it doesn’t have a v1 at the front, I’m guessing that isn’t the significant element.

Thanks

N

After the upgrade to v1 24, my FM radio vanished from the menu. I need that radio. what can I do.

Did you install the correct firmware version for you geographical location? There are 6 different versions.

Is this firmware update a Good Thing?  There were a couple of negative comments but not much other discussion about whether people found the changes, good or bad.

Most of the shall we say ‘more experienced’ users with v1 models here either reverted back to the previous .18 f/w version, or never updated to the .24 in the 1st place.

Does that tell you anything?

I think there is an F version with FM for European users.  The E version doesn’t have the FM tuner support as a means of Sandisk avoiding some sort of European tax or tariff or some such on imported radio tuners.
