How Do I: "Copy the .mi4 firmware file to the root directory of the device..."

when I don't even know what a "root directory" is?  I'm trying to upgrade the firmware on my e260, and am a COMPLETE motard/newbie (obviously).  I'm sure many will feel like slapping me, but please be gentle...
