I just wanted to report my success with my Sansa View for ripping DVD's into the proper format to play on it for us users of Linux.
After selecting the source DVD, move down to the picture tab and click on the preview image.
A window pops out. On the left side bottom, uncheck the box and set all values to zero.
On bottom right, uncheck all boxes and set screen resolution to 640 by 480.
On the Video tab, select ffmpeg for the decoder and 23.976 (NTSC Film) for the frame rate and 500 for the bitrate.
Switch to the audio/subtitles tab, select a sample rate of 44.1 for the audio.
Just above the tabbed boxes, make sure your container setting is mp4.
Last, choose your location and output file name then click on the green start button.
When your dvd is done ripping, on the bottom of the window it will display the progress "Rip Done!
Finally, copy the mp4 to your video directory on your view. I have found that doing this as I described that the video will play every time.
