I downloaded The Shining today, and when I put in on my view it showed a picture of a clap board in front of the regular background like it was playing a song, and then said "unsupported media format". It's an .avi
I then converted it to .mp4 and it still did the same thing.
The .avi movie plays on my computer fine, but not on the player.

What did you use to convert it? And, what settings did you use for the video output? Following the instructions in this thread has always come up with videos that work for my 16G View.

Its the resolution. The view won't play files that have a resolution 'larger' then 320x240 or the other way around, depending on where your from. Just check, I find a lot of videos are 420x270 and up.

Using Any Video Converter, the following settings should create a file playable on the View...
Under Options => Video make sure these are all checked:
Fit to width
Expand to video size
Round to 16 pixels
Then select Custom MP4 Movie (*.mp4) output profile and alter these:
Video Codec = x264
Video Size = 320x240
Video Bitrate = 768 (a little higher or lower if you prefer)
Video Framrate = 29.976 (25 or 30 should also work if you prefer)
Audio Coded = aac
Audio Bitrate = 128
Sample Rate = 44100
Audio Channel = 2
Disable Audio = No
A/V Sync = Basic (if audio gets out of sync try Default instead)
The above settings have worked well for me. You can adjust some things to your liking (like the Video Bitrate to improve quality or reduce file size).

Just a note, I've got videos that are 640x480 on my View that play just fine....

Ahhh I'm so frustrated with all of this.
-The video plays perfectly on my computer, not on my view.
-I tried resizing it, using VirtualDubs, and depending on whether or not I compress the file, it either doesn't resize it at all or it resizes it but I only have audio, not video.
-I tried converting it to mp4, using Any Video Converter, and it messed up the file and didn't play at all on anything.
Here's everything about it in the properties.
file tag = .avi
resolution = 352x288
duration = 2:24:37
bit rate = 18kps
audo format = MPEG Layer-3
frame rate = 23 frames/second
data rate = 77kbps
I don't know if that helps at all, really.

Hi...I was having problems getting video on to my view until I downloaded formatfactory ( free) and followed the instructions someone posted here...
Turn into a MP4 file...
Video 368 x 208 w.s or 352 x 240 for standard
audio sample 44100
I converted direct from a dvd to mp4 then loaded it directly to my view.
