If you don’t mind having weird rips, theres also the --nogap option in lame, which will allow MP3s to be played gaplessly on any MP3 player. But be warned, it tends to make track boundaries a little bit odd, since it stitches the end of one track with the start of the next in order to ensure that each “track” ends exactly on an MP3 frame boundary (and thus no gap need be inserted).
That solves half the problem. To play gapless, the mp3 player still has to be able to start the next track immediately after the current one finishes. That generally means prebuffering, which which many players (inclusing Sansa) don’t do.
…I would be far more than happy if by gapless you meant “getting rid of any and all clicks and nosies and gaps between tracks so they play as if in a decent CD player as they were mastered by the artist”…
Erm, that is what we mean by “gapless.” Utterly seamless (non-clicky, non-poppy, non-gappy) track-to-track playback.
Add my vote to the list. Gapless playback of LAME-encoded MP3s and fully-editable/saveable on-the-fly playlists are my two biggest wishes for the Fuze.
It is just so annoying this issue of not having gapless playback. So many of my albums are mixed together and split by tracks, the Fuze totally ruins the album and makes them unlistenable due to the gap.
I could combine the tracks into one track but then that would mean having to fast forward through potentially 80 minutes of audio to get to a track I want to listen to. Also not having a bookmark feature also means there is no quick fix way to make this method kinda work without fast forwarding through the whole long track.

I don’t find the gaps very noticeable at all, myself…Pink Floyd is the most commonly cited example, and I really think people overexaggerate the horror of the gaps.
If I’m that concerned with the tracks flowing freely together, then that means I’m listening at home, without distractions…which means I can listen to the FLAC
on foobar2000, which does do gapless. If I’m on-the-go, given the need for situational awareness, the barely noticable gaps are not a big deal.
The animation is just my commentary on the thread in general, which is getting awful repetitive.
Being repetitive is the only way big companies listen, if there are enough people wanting/asking for something it makes it more likely it will happen. This thread is to collect votes/signatures of Fuze owners who would really appreciate gapless playback. Seeing that Sansa only a couple of months ago released a new firmware for the Fuze got me thinking that they aren’t going to be abandoning the Fuze just yet. But it would be nice to hear from Sansa if they do plan on anymore firmware updates which will include new features rather than bug fixes.
It isn’t the end of the world that the Fuze doesn’t have gapless playback I’m enjoying my Fuze as it is, but there is never any harm in asking for more features to make it just that little bit more improved.

1.) No, it isn’t. But it IS a sure way to be annoying, both to the other people on this forum and to those SanDisk employees that frequent here as well. You might think you’re offering something fresh, but believe me we have heard it ALL before! You’re late to the party. This is just the most recent in a series of gripe/■■■■■ threads on the subject. There have been many others prior to this.
2.) Again, if you had done your homework & searched prior to posting, you would’ve discovered there are already numerous existing threads on the subject that you could have added your support too.
3.) Once more, reading or searching out existing threads can really benefit those unfamiliar with this forum (or any one for that matter). Had you done this, you would have discovered that this was already discussed and confirmed that ‘gapless’ is on the firmware development team’s ‘To-Do’ list. They are working on it as we speak. Sansafix himself already stated in this very thread that (in so many words) the thread itself is unnecessary as almost everyone would enjoy, or appreciate ‘gapless’ playback.
4.) Yet, one more time . . . if you (or anyone) would spend just a few minutes reading what has already been written on this boards, you would see that SanDisk is committed to improving the workings via firmware updates. Also, the updates are not just ‘bug-fixes’! Every one I’ve ever seen, refgardless of model has had new features & improvments as well as problems solved.
