Sansa Fuze Firmware Update

“And I don’t want to have to change my whole music collection for something that can easily be fixed on the fuze’s part.”

You could put the albums on the Fuze and change the tags in the files on the Fuze, right after you transfer them,  in about 2 seconds with mp3tag.  It’s really not a very strenuous workaround.

It’s hard not to see the new slotradio icon. It’s bright red and placed between the music and video icons.

Is it just me or is the radio reception better?

Very annoying the this slot radio has been pushed onto my machine with out my having the option to refuse.   I have no interest in this gimmick and want it off my menu.  Sansa;  I will never buy another one.

Are you kidding me?   I   like the cool red SR icon!   Cool “blurb” mask when the center button is depressed without an SR card mounted too.  Seriously, be glad  that you don’t have that goofball “treasure chest” icon in the main menu.

Personally, I am thinking of adding the lil’ monsta  icon instead of the EQ for "settings.  Hmm, that’s an interesting thought…

Now, let’s pop in a cool jazz SR card.  D’oh!  I’ll have to wait for that one.

Now for the piece de resistance!  Yes!!   Video Resume patch is successful.   You can now zip between video files like before.  Make some popcorn, it’s video time.

The fact that the fuze is not able to read a simple / in a track tag is annoying though. I wouldn’t have a problem doing the process, but that’s not how I organize my files. I use x/x because I know that that track is part of an album with x tracks so if something’s missing, I know the real amount of tracks.

Found another bug or limitation:

In folder view, if a mp3 file name is longer than 80 characters including spaces and file extension, and is non-english (cyrillic in my case) - you’ll get a non-readable mix of squares, tildes, capital english letters and numbers…

Ex:

Любовные истории - Там, на моей стороне Луны - Лучшие песни Русского Радио 9.mp3

Will look like this in fuze’s folder view:

N ~1.MP3

mag1230 - funny you saying about the radio reception getting better. I’ve got the same impression. After rescan the Fuze added a couple of stations I didn’t knew existed.

As to the new and shiny radioslot icon it disappeared with no trace - probably after I reset Fuze to World bandwave.

Alexz - has this distortion appeared AFTER you upgraded firmware or it exists on the previous firmware version as well? I never noticed it as I’m always trying to transcribe Russian names using Latin letters. Actually, if I choose to run my Fuze interface in default English, it can’t read Russian letters at all - never mind 80 digit limitation. Программисты у Сандиска такие…

Agree totally.

Benboy, I initially thought it was a long awaited link to an option to chose between folder and tagrelated browsing… Wishful thinking… :frowning:

I managed to get rid of this unexpected “offer” by setting my radio to the “world” option ( I think ) After the Fuze restarted the flag of the Paris Commune disappeared.

Yep, confirmed, it also exists in previous version.

I think this will not be fixed anyway…  Sansa’s coders either cooking something big for us and we shall see a new fuze or something soon…  or most of them left the building… otherwise how do we explain updates such as adding SR icon to the fuze or no updates for View or Clip for a such loooong time?

P.S. Changing language to english changes UI strings only. My russian mp3s are readable as long as they 80 char or less. You could use mp3tag if names are important to you.

I can confirm that if you set your region to Europe and not America the ugly slotradio advert disappears.

Okay, but does the radio still work afterwards? I believe Europe uses different intervals for assigning frequencies. (US is 88.9, 89.1, 89.3, 89.5, etc., Europe is something else).

Yes. The Euro system is 88.05, 88.10, 88.15 and so on. So to use it in NA, just use 91.5 = 91.50, etc.

Gwk1967 - you are right,  I believe if you are in the US you have to stay with US option in the radio, otherwise the frequencies would change to the European scale.

Therefore you are doomed to watch this new “advertising” thingy.

Sheesh!  It’s only an additional capability in the menu, just as the Rhapsody Channels icon / feature is.  Unlike the Channels icon, which would display [empty] if selected without loaded music playlists, pressing the center button yields a flag telling you where to get the µSD SR cards.  Hardly an “advert” in my estimation.

Weren’t you rolling that wheel looking for music?

Bob  :stuck_out_tongue:

Seems like they didn’t include a fix for the voice recording “ghost files” that are left when recordings are deleted using the computer.  There’s a work around, but I’m disappointed they didn’t fix it in this update.  Using the fuze to delete those files can be very inconvenient when there are muliple recordings.

Music playback stutters when scrolling through long artist/album/song lists. Didn’t happen with previous firmware.

You can just set the region for the player to Europe, the go to radio options and change the region to USA. This will change the radio to the US system but get rid of the slotradio ad.

I am now very satisfied with the Fuze!

What’s wrong with it? Nothing! I’m just extremely glad that stupid video problem was finally fixed. Now I have found absolutely nothing wrong with it. The only thing I don’t like is not the slotRadio icon, but the fact that the message that comes up stays up for like 5 seconds, and you can do nothing about it. That is all. Great update!

Coffee, meet keyboard. I’m sure you’ll be happy together.

Seriously, that’s it? After all this time, this is the best they could do? This has got to be the biggest two-finger salute to their customers I’ve yet seen. We get an advert for a pointless music service as an update to the firmware.

Oh yes, they went all out to fix a video bug on a music player (which has a 1.9" screen) too. Way to go guys. You lazy sods.

Major fail.
