Sansa Fuze Firmware Update version 01.01.22 & 02.01.17

Microsansa, Slotmosta, any of the other admins, can we just get this thread locked and cleaned out? Its gon so far from the appropriate topic at this point that its shameful. We want this forum to be helpful but unfortunatly at this point this thread is not helpful any more. This should have been done a long time ago.

They most certainly did.

“Yes its in the next release, end of the month.”

I’ll be sure to ask them, next time, to send you the firmware the the exact day you expect, even if it’s not quite ready. Sound good? Seriously, why do you have to be so negative, so often?

I’m not being negaitive. I’m simply pointing out that what you said was wrong.

The Fuze does not do what a reasonable purchaser could expect it would. That has been the case since Sansa launched 16GB uSD cards, at least 6 months ago and Sansa as a company have done nothing to alert potential customers. A promised release date for a fix has come and gone. Is it unreasonable to expect a quick, two minute post saying “Sorry, we hit a slight probelm and we’re fixing it. We’ll expect to be x days late.”?

I’m surprised that posts were allowed in the thread in the first place.  Most forums put a lock on firmware/software update threads to prevent what has happened to this one.  But, with that said, this thread has been lively, sometimes funny, sometimes boring…as all threads are.

If persons looking for the firmware update don’t want to read the posts in this thread; they really don’t have to as the update will be at the beginnng anyway…

Ok, here we go…

Hate to sound like an ■■■■■, but what is folder browsing? I’ve heard about it too much, and it sounds important, but I can’t figure out what it is.

I agree, GB has hit the point, in that most users will find what they need in the first few pages of this thread.  The beginning pages give us a snapshot of users’ initial findings and any difficulties encountered, as the new firmware is installed.

Several hundred notes later, it should be obvious that we’re “lounging about”.  No amount of thread locking would be useful in stopping human nature.  It is, actually, a good opportunity for users to get to know eachother.

This forum enjoys a considerable amount of traffic, especially of you compare it against others.  Keeping pace with it can be a real task, but with a freshly charged Sansa, all things are possible (long sessions may require a bit of “speed metal”, for example).

Don’t forget that there’s an Off-Topic Forum Page , perfect for those thoughts that might not be exactly on-point.  Just be thoughtful, and keep it civil.

The barrage above is, well, human nature.  Bob is fine, he’s spent years in Nomex.

Folder navigation, or browsing, means that the Sansa can display your files by their filename, just as you see them on your PC, rather than the data entered in the ID3 tag.

it’s a good question.

If you wanted to physically organize your music in a specific way, one not covered by Artist Album Genre, you could put them in a folder structure on your PC for easy finding (e.g. on a PC, d:\Music\boxed sets\INXS\Disc2 or d:\Music\One Hit Wonders\1980s).   You could do this by tagging songs with the desired structure, but that only goes so far, and could be confusing in other searches (artist, genre, album).

Folder Browsing lets you see your music in exactly the organization you put it on the device.  For larger collections this can be an especially useful feature.  others might have their reasons for wanting it, but that is mine.

Ok, thanks. I personally don’t really mind that or not. I’m happy with how it works right now.

Yeah I get in the habit of making playlists and correctly tagging things anyway, so folder browsing would be an ‘extra’ not an ‘essential’ for me.

Edit: A surprising amount of my posts make it to the next page… This disturbs me.

Only 10 allowed per page.

And why would this disturb you?

I always go to post and its on the next page… its just weird.

Or to put it another way - ‘folder browsing’ means - your Fuze or device of choice with that ability can see your files organized exactly the same way your pc sees them - alphanumerically sorted without having to tag.

Wow I must have received 300 emails about this board   The Fuze is fine what else can a firmware fix except the occasional refresh database

The 4000 file limit.

The 4000 file limit.

Plus the 2000 song shuffle limitation

Plus the slow/fast speed pitch correction

Plus the sudden switch to full volume and no scroll wheel control

Plus adding support for the newer ID3v2.4 tags

Plus freezing of device requiring reset when using the on-board Delete function

Plus some other things regarding Audiobooks & podcasts

Plus the White Screen Of Death issue

Enough examples for you?

Most of these I’ve never had

Why is it so hard for people that post in chatrooms to imagine that anyone else might use a product in a different way than they do? …If the Fuze is perfect for you why are you even lurking in this Firmware upgrade thread?

Well then, count your blessings but these are real problems that many people are experiencing and they need to be solved. Especially the White Screen issue (seemingly more prevalent on the newer Rev. 2 hardware configuration) and the sudden switch to full volume with no warning!

These are what I consider to be absolutely CRITICAL fixes needed. One for the health of the users and the other for the health of the company and Fuze’s reputation.

OK guys, this tread is getting way off topic. This thread is intended for the discussion of the current firmware release. Please only post if you have questions or issues with this particular firmware release. There is a board dedicated to firmware suggestions so if your post is related to a wishlist or firmware suggestion please post your suggestion in the firmware suggestion board. This thread has become less and less useful because of the constant posting of unrelated comments and topics. Please keep things on topic.

The next firmware release passed QA this weekend and it will likely be posted early this week. We are working to get the new firmware released as soon as possible so please be patient.
