MP3 Newbie - pls help

Yes i know limeware is a bad music source, however, there are cases that I CANNOT ABSOLUTLY, AFTER WORKING MY BUTT OFF, CANNOT FIND, so i use limeware than, and only download ones with correct tags and seem right. I use www.beemp3.com which is an okay site, and there is a subscription option for that too.

Do you have a local library? I do, and I can check out cd’s 7 per day, Now I am not a Pirate, But I do know that Limewire is such a bad risk, I build and repair PC’s, and Everyone I know in the business won’t touch limewire with a 100 foot pole. It is riddled with spyware and viruses, not to mention porn…

You can pruchase a program for 20  dollars called ARES, it will get you all the music you need legally.

And Itunes is compatible with Fuze, the ACC format as well as MP3, trust me, I download podcasts from itunes then load them with windows media player to my sansa.

Not entirely correct. ACC is not compatable. You need to convert them. Podcasts Download as mp3 in most cases.

I am not familiar with what audiobooks and podcasts are. Can anyone mind explaining to me. I have never used these before.

Google them. Audiobooks are the digital version of books on tape. Podcasts are Radio shows (I guess) usally under 10 min, on a particuar subject. go to indiefeed.com, and at the top right there are some different musical genres, click on one that appeals to you, then scroll down a bit until you see a little orange icon, click the link next to it. It will open a file (Mine is in quicktime) and you can listen to it just to get a feel for kinda what a podcast is. They cover every subject imaginable.

Yes, to convert ACC to mp3 you need Multimedia Software by ManiacTools | ManiacTools m4a-to-mp3 -converter. that is a free download.

Thank you for your help, however, I am pretty young, and I rather not buy stuff and be dishonestful and download free stuff. Do you have any suggestions on where to get cheap or free audiobooks or podcasts?

Podcasts ARE Free and Legal. Do you hvae itunes? Go to the Itunes Store and search Podcasts. The Ones On Indiefeed are completely free. Audiobooks are a different thing all together, which I avoid.

The term podcast is a shortening of ipod broadcast.  These days they can be either audio or video.  The key distinction between a podcast and just a download is that podcast software automatically downloads new content on a subscribed podcast when it’s ready.  Subscriptions are generally free.

Some popular standalone podcast downloaders are  mypodder and pubcatcher.  Music programs like Itunes and Amorak often have podcast capability too.

Evidently you need to work just a bit harder in finding music legally…

Yes, but seeing as  use The GIMP they are useless for me. I have downloaded every album from that site. Some of the heavy rock I just deleted again but I love the Girl Talk album “Feed the Animals” and put it on when I am on the threadmill.

I actually feel a little guilty that I only paid $2. I am thinking of paying another $5 so I can get the single MP3 so I can play it with no gaps.

At fuze_owner-GB, I guess so, I’m not someone who works that hard for 1 song, maybe 30minutes worth than limeware~

I know.  I don’t mean to pick on you, but I’m looking at it with different eyes than you or others, being a musician.  Do you realize the sweat, blood and hard work went into that one song that you are downloading for free?  If I can’t get something legally, I just opt not to have it.  But…I can’t think of a single instance where I couldn’t get a legal copy of anything legally…

GB,Look at it from my Eyes. I am also a musician so I see that point. I have also been sued by RIAA, and CRIA so I really dont like to use limewire for illegel downloads. I have an Issue though, I am very eccentric when it comes to my music, I (This may be a form of OCD) have major issues with taking CD’s out of the plastic. Here is what I do. I buy a disk and File it away, then I use limewire to download the disk. I paid for it… It just my way of getting it, sometimes when I get disks from a band like yours (I assume you dont have a major label release that I can pick up in wal-mart) I will contact you about Digital copy, so I dont have to open the disk. Now for MC this is probably not so do-able. What I would suggest for him is to try and find some free stuff licensed under the creative commons license. This can be found at sites like www.frostclick.com, and from some labels websites. Also MC try this (Its something I did when I was younger) If you get some cash and you wanna get Songs from legit sites like amazon, have your parents set you up a PayPal account, and have it be prepaid. Then Give your parents a few bucks to put on there. For instance my allowance when I was young was $10 a week, I had my parents set up the paypal account and had them put $20 on it every month, and then I would give her $5 a week out of my allowance. It was a great way for me to take controll of my music collection and practice some financial planning.

Ah. From my point of view i thought you were just being mean  Joking ~

Anyway, I know making a song takes time along with your skill, sweat, blood , and hardwork taken to make the song. However, I am not a musician, and I am only a teen[<3] with a short patience. Personally I take music from beemp3, and I have subscribed to it. Limeware is for music that I cannot find within a short period of time. I am more or less of an average person as most of my friends use limeware/ itunes.

I imagine that most of the people who are downloading songs don’t really care enough about the music to care how it affects the musicians. They’re casual listeners, not fans. I download music to try it out (this isn’t stuff on the radio), and if I like it I definitely do buy it…but I’m a fan of this stuff and I feel the desire to reward people who make music I like.

OK… I didn’t want to upset the apple cart…  I’ll back off… I realize that the obtaining of music via the internet is not a black and white issue; there’s lots of shades of greys involved.

I can see everyone’s point to a degree…
