I've always wondered something.

How come when the backlight on the Fuze goes off, you cannot see anything? If I’m not mistaken, you can still see the screen on iPod’s after the backlight goes off.

Probably to save battery life.

My laptop is the same way, for me its because I have the brightness cranked all the way down and battery saving mode on.

Sandisk obviously put this in, so that battery life is effiecient, so customer satisfaction is at a high.

It saves a wee bit more power, blanking the display completely, and holding off on the display refresh entirely until the display is activated.

Plus, trying to observe the display without backlight would drive me crazy.

Mine does this all the time and I don’t mind it one bit. Its probably best that the player do this rather than the alternative. Agree with what others have said.
