How can I remove SansaDispatch from my PC?

I ran the Sansa Updater yesterday to do the Fuze firmware update. Now there is a SansaUpdate folder on my hard drive with some .exe programs including SansaDispatch.exe. I tried deleting the programs but I can’t delete SansaDispatch.exe. I went into the Add or Remove Programs of my Control Panel and SansaDispatch.exe doesn’t show up as a program I can remove. How can I remove this bugger?

Start > Programs > Sandisk > Sansa Updater > Uninstall should do it.

Alternatively, open Task Manager and kill the SansaDispatch process then you should be able to delete the SansaDispatch.exe file.

Are you sure that you want to do that though?

I removed it in the registry. However, if you are going to ever go into the registry, make a system restore point, because there could be a possibility that you might screw up your computer.

Ok, first goto start, then run. Type in regedit. The registry editor should open.  Next, double click on HKEY_CURRENT_USER. Nex, double click on Software, then look for SanDisk. Next double click on SansaUpdater, then look for in the Data column SansaDispatcher.exe, (I like looking at the Data Column, because once you see something that you reconginize, you’ll know that’s what you want to delete.) Now, delete the file, and if it does bug you about do you really want to delete this value, say yes.

NOW, BEFORE YOU DO THIS, IF YOUR COMPUTER DOES NOT FUNCTION PROPERTLY AFTER YOU MAKE THIS CHANGE, START WINDOWS UNDER SAFE MODE, THEN RESTORE THAT SYSTEM RESTORE POINT, AND EVERYTHING SHOULD BE FIXED.

Good luck!

I strongly suggest you do not go messing about in the registry unless you are 100% comfortable that you can undo any problems you may create.

I believe you’re the same person who asked about this over at ABI, and the advice you got there is the same I’ll give now.

Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to get to Task Manager.  Click the Processes tab.  Find any Sansa software in the list, right click on it, and select ‘end process tree’.  Now go delete the exe file.

Thanks for the replies.  I just got back form vacation and will try the non-registry methods when I am at home.  I didn’t see a folder or program on my PC called Sansa Updater > Uninstall.  I will use the Task Manager method.

Why would I want to keep the dispatcher running on my PC?  It will tell me when the next firmware update is out but those only happen every year or two, right?  it seems silly to keep a process running that long.

If I delete it, I can install it again when the next firmware update comes out.  Or I can do the update manually.  That seems better.  Am I missing something?

I went to my Start menu and found this like NickC said:

Start > Programs > Sandisk > Sansa Updater > Uninstall

I ran the Uninstaller and the programs are gone now.  Thanks for the help!
