Does anyone here know when Rockbox will be available for the Fuze?

Thanks, donp for pointing that out. I should have clarified my statement a bit more on ‘gapless’ & LAME-encoded .mp3 files.

I have edited my previous post.

We are all in the same boat. Im hoping My plane dont crash Just to see the next firmware.

You guys live dangerous lives, apparently. I’d be more worried about the bus/plane/horse-drawn sleigh/whatever than the firmware.

Then you won’t need to know, will you?

In Heaven, all Fuzes play perfectly, at the correct pitch, no crashing, no song limits, read folder/files structures, have infinite user-customizable backgrounds, and play videos in any format without using any software whatsoever to convert them first. All this is accomplished without the need for any firmware updates.

In Hell? . . . Well, there’s only 1 kind of mp3 player there. The I-Pod!

So if I were you, I’d change my ways . . . PDQ! :smileyvery-happy:

If anyone is intested, Rockbox 3.2 has been released:

 Rockbox Manual Install

That’s a real big statement to make…people will be disappointed about each and every feature Rockbox has and the new firmware hasn’t and you must know this - it’s already happening, cf. the ‘gapless’ discussion

but perhaps we really are in for a big and positive surprise which makes Sansa the one media player brand which PERFECTLY adapts to their customer’s whishes, and not just in a single release but on an ongoing basis

do it, Sansa, like the blue monster says: “change the world or go home” …

There are free daily harp concerts, plus any rockers that made it up there.

I’m keeping an eye out for ROCKBOX for Fuze, but don’t ask me when its gonna be here.

But you’ll know it, because I’ll be screaming in the forums, “ROCKBOX IS HERE! ROCKBOX IS HERE! OMG ROCKBOX IS HERE!” dangit pinky, stay off the shift for awhile…

Sorry, but I gotta . . .

What are you keeping an eye out for . . . Rockbox, Heaven, or the free daily harp concerts?

Yeah, I’m really curious what that might mean.

The main things I can think of are (in no particular order):

  1. Gapless
  2. ReplayGain
  3. Folder browsing
  4. Custom theme/skin

It seems like 1 is pretty much confirmed not to be in this release.  Sandisk has been very reluctant to implement 3.  And I don’t think we’ll ever see 4.

So that leaves ReplayGain.  Sansafix did post once that they were considering it.  That would be nice and would probably finally get me to switch to Ogg (MP3Gain is the only thing keeping me on MP3).  But it doesn’t seem like a significant enough feature to say “you might not need RockBox” anymore.

I suppose they might shock us with folder browsing, but it seems unlikely.  You would think they would have dropped some kind of a hint to quell the neverending “folder” threads.

Anyone else have an pointless speculation?

Not quite speculation: it was implied that the dependence on SMC for video transfer would be significantly reduced, if not eliminated. SMC’s (not so) little annoyances are another reason many people would like to see Rockbox on the Fuze.

So I thought this amazing firmware was supposed to come out back in march.

They never listed a specific date. They said, “The end of Q1, 2009”. If we haven’t seen it yet, that means they’re trying to make it work properly before they release it to the public. So just chill out and relax…the Fuze is working just fine already, any improvements are just gravy!
