Can you please help me in deciding between Fuze, Clip+ and E270?

Mmm. The thing that I have not clear is: E270 with Rockbox, beside supporting with no problem micro SDHC (kingston?), also sounds AS well as a V2 e200 or Fuze or Clip?

An entire new world is opening to me, and I start to feel a bit confused. Rockbox site, anythingbutipod site…

Wow…

I see that in Rockbox site trhey talk od a ClipV2. I guess I cannot find it here. But, what is it? Newer than Clip+?

I also understand that I cannot install Rockbox on Fuze (at least not on V2, while I can on V1 if I do not need USB). Is it a problem? I mean, is Rockbox better than Sansa players firmwares? Anyway I guess it is better a new Sansa with Sansa firmware than an old Sansa with Rockbox…

No, the e200v1 isn’t as good, particularly if you use IEMs.  On those you will hear a bit of noise for a few seconds when the flash memory is accessed (but not once the memory is done reading).

Its exactly what it sounds like.  The second hardware revision of the Clip.  That makes it newer then the Clip v1, but older then the Clip+.

Sounds like I will have to see what I get here and then be more specific on my investigation.

I generally like to get informed before, so I can take a decision on the fly wen in the shop.

But I will probably need to come back here before buying…

Well,  a last question: do CLip (V1 and 2), Clip+, and E270 support MSC mode as the Fuze does?

OK, apparently here I can find only Clip+ and Fuze.

I can get a better price on Fuze. But I still have to check other shops where maybe I can get price on Clip+.

So, mi question would be now, really, and in consideration of what said in this post: which one sounds better, finally?

Fuze, or Clip+?

Ah, sorry, last question: is rockbox so good that I should prefer E270 just to be able to use RB?

Fuze, or Clip+?

They’re the same inside, so there shouldn’t be any difference.  The Clip+ is basically a fuze in a smaller package but no color screen and less battery.

Yes, I understand what you say, but I was confused by commentaries about Fuze sounding better than Clip+ (Black Rectangle), or Clip sounding slightly better than Fuze (Rob), and even that Clip+ sounds a bit warmer than Clip (anythingbutipod review).

I understand that you guys live in US, and ther you get these products for nothing, compared to what we pay here, and that we pay in a weak currency…

So, it is a certain quantity of money and I will not be able to try them.

I am anyway tranquill in this case because nobody told “this sounds so much netter than this”, and opinions where finally balancing themselves.

I think I will see them, and try to choose the one I like more in my hand.

User error.  They’re literally identical:

 http://rmaa.elektrokrishna.com/Comparisons/Sansa%20Clip%20vs.%20Clip+%20(No%20Loads,%2016%20Ohm%20Loads).htm

FWIW you should basically never listen to other people who try to compare the sound of different players.  Its so hard basically no one can do it correctly.

I have no idea of what those tests are saying. I am not so technical…

Anyway, I understand that you are saying that the differences in this teest are zero to none.

But what most bothers me is the difference Fuze/Clip+, as I will not buy a Clip (because I need microsdhc slot)…

Then you probably shouldn’t be too worried about these things.

Clip+, Clipv2 and Fuzev2 all have the same hardware inside.  The clipv1, e200v2 and fuzev1 also have the same.  All of them are identical in terms of output.  Hope that is more clear.

Sorry, I am confused. You are saying that  Clip+, Clipv2, Fuzev2, clipv1, e200v2, and fuzev1are all the same SQ? Or that they are in two groups, and SQ is the same inside each group? So, where should fit E200v1?

Well, I see that some of you are in both forums, some others no. So, I do not feel like posting all the time in many threads, I will just follow this one: http://forums.sandisk.com/sansa/board/message?board.id=clipplus&thread.id=3166

The test that was posted said the Clip and the Clip+ have nearly identical sound. It said nothing about the Fuze.

Compared to the Fuze, the Clip+ has a weaker output and, in my experience, inferior sound.

The E200 v1 is also inferior and has a slight noise where there should be silence between tracks. If you are not technically oriented, you probably shouldn’t mess around with Rockbox.

Look, get the Fuze. Especially if it’s cheaper.

All the Clip+ offers is smaller size, but it has less battery life and, despite what anythingbutipod says, it doesn’t sound as good. You’ll be very happy with a Fuze.

Also, somebody correct me if I’m wrong, but the Fuze (with the latest firmware update) allows for simple folder-based use if that’s of any interest to you. You just switch to “Folder View” and you can micro-manage your audio files.

Mmm, I have Fuze V2 with firmware V02.02.26P, and I can browse Folders. Is this what you mean?

Yep.

Well, it is not the lates firmware upgrade. The latest is 31.

Fuze V1 can browse folders as well, isn’t it?

Yes, a v1 Fuze can browse folders, and folder browsing was added some time ago to the firmware. The v1, out of the box with its original firmware, did not browse folders. The v2, with .26, does already browse folders.

I don’t consider the Fuze to be usable w/o the Folders view. Most of the default views only show the song title, not the artist, so trying to find a specific song by artist is impossible unless you know the song’s exact name. The playlist function is likewise braindead, and I can’t use it at all.

If all your tags are in order, it should still be perfectly usable. I had my Fuze before the folder view was introduced, and it worked just fine for me…although I did welcome the folder view when it was added. And the GoList, if that is what you were referring to, same thing there, with tags in order it worked well…it remains the only “playlist” I’ve ever bothered with.

I have folder with genre, inside them I have subfolders by author where songs are named just with title. When I have a folder with “various artists” I name songs by artist - title.
