You need to load the new firmware while the Clip is connected in the MSC mode. In this mode it appears as a normal flash memory drive under My Computer so you can add files by dragging and dropping.
To force an MSC mode connection:
Turn the Clip off.
Place the power switch in the “Hold” position.
Connect it to your computer while pressing the center button on the Clip.
