Firmware updatre failue is usually an indication something is wrong with the area where the firmware is stored. To update the firmware you have to write to this area and then it switches to the new firmware on the next boot and then overwrites the old firmware after successful boot. If this is not working the only thing would be to try remanufacturing the drive. As far as I know there is no SSD manufacturer out there that have released their manufacturing tool to the public hence the need to have it replaced.
