SSD Plus recessed connector installation issue

I’m not able to top-mount this 240 GB drive to replace the existing internal one which has the connector jutting out. The SSD Plus on the other hand, is recessed. Is there a way to pop it out or did I buy the wrong drive?

Laptop is Acer 3810 TZ. Drive being replaced is a 320 GB Seagate Momentus 5400.5 SATA series, ST9320320AS.

the piece on the HDD is an adapter. You need to take that off the old drive and put it on the ssd to install it.
