Problem With Album Art

I have looked into this and oddly enough it seems to be the embedded EXIF metadata in your image files that confuses the Clip Sport. This data is differently formatted in the file that works (1970.jpg) compared to the ones that doesn’t. The images seems to be created with PaintShop Pro X6 and that software is capable of editing EXIF metadata directly. As a first step though I would like you to remove the data all together on one file and confirm that it works.

The easiest way is to upload the image file 1971.jpg to http://www.verexif.com/en

Select “Remove Exif” and save the new file. Then try to use that image file with the Clip Sport.

If it works, update (or simply delete) the EXIF metadata within your image files with PaintShop Pro : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OqN9Cluc1jI

Thanks for looking into this. When I have more time I’ll see if what you suggested works. Also…Would it help if I re-saved the picture files in Gimp?

Ok, that didn’t take as long as I thought…I ran 1971 and 1972 throught the nifty program you showed me. 1971 now works perfect, but 1972 shows up but it’s a much smaller picture. How can two pictures of the same size show up differently on the screen?

One last added note- It appears that all music files that are mpeg have normal sized album art. All music files that are AAC files show a smaller picture for some reason. Any fix for this?

Yes, although you will loose some quality for every re-save of a jpeg-file.

In Gimp, select File - Export As… in menu.

Give the new file a name.

In the dialog “Export Image as JPEG” expand “Advanced options”.

Uncheck ”Save EXIF data” and (optionally) check “Use quality settings from original image”.

Export the file.

Sadly, I don’t think so. In my experience, this seems to be true for OGG files as well. I use a shared “folder.jpg” file as album art and this one image shows up in two different sizes dependent of what type of file (mp3, aac or ogg) I’m playing at the moment.

A firmware bug or memory restraints in hardware perhaps.

Thanks for your help. I’m going to convert all the music I have to the AAC format so the the art will all be the same size. At least the pictures are showing up now!

So the limitation similar to the clip zip where the album art size has to be below 100kb?

Officially the maximum supported resolution is 480 x 480 with a maximum file size of 450kB. It’s complete waste of space though because the 128 x 128 display on the player will only use a fraction of that for album art. Keeping album art below 100kb is still a good guideline.

reported! quit giving people FALSE information!!! album art is 480x480 an is ONLY 292kb and NOT WORKING!!! quit feeding people BS!!! ESPECIALLY WHEN WE ALL ARE TRYING TO FIND THE *REAL* ANSWER WHY IT IS *NOT* WORKING!!!

(Too much coffee this morning?)

Reported what?

. . . and to who?

:confounded:

I was able to fix the problem by selecting the type of JPG saved as the folder.jpg image.

In PhotoShop, it was saving the JPG as Progressive by default. I chose baseline (Standard) and my album art displayed finally in my Sansa Clip.

Thanks for that tip!

Would you mind fixing a photo to work for this for me?   I am getting so frusterated with this…

This is so confusing…  Could you set up a song with album art for me?

To format album art that works with my Clip Sport, I experience good results using the software “irfanview”.

       http://www.irfanview.com/

I experience good results using album art formatted as jpg using 200 x 200 pixels,  72 dpi,  and when saving, click “Show options dialog” then clear all EXIF checkboxes.

folder.jpg

The Clip Sport firmware will automatically display the file “folder.jpg” that resides in the same subfolder as the mp3 files currently playing.  Best results with this method playing mp3 files that do not have embedded album art.

To embed album art into my mp3 files, I experience good results using the software “mp3tag”.

       http://www.mp3tag.de/en/

Best results with this software for Clip Sport by deleting any non working album art from mp3 file, and then replacing with folder.jpg file.

Can I make the changes necessary to show album art and tags from my android LG cellphone? And if so, what’s the best software? I’ve tried the Album Art Changer, which changes all.of my art and tags and works great on my phone, but not in my clip sport. Also, when you say folder.jpg, do you mean to name the actual image “folder.jpg”? And if so, what happens if you have a number of songs all going into the same folder? They can’t all be named “folder.jpg,” can they? Pardon my ignorance, but clearly there’s a lot I have yet to learn. Thank you for any help you can give in this matter.

This trick works best for a folder of music files (mp3) when the files do not have any embedded album art.

Save a single art file with tbe file name folder.jpg into this folder (not embedded in the music files).

In my experience, the folder.jpg file shoud be 200x200 pixels (or 250x250) and 72 dpi.

For PC users, the shareware software mp3tag now has version 3.0 (and higher) that can execute a quick resizing fix for mp3 files with embedded album art.     https://www.mp3tag.de/en/

I solved the problem with my album art and in doing so I couldn’t help but wonder, if I can display a .jpg than would it be possible to display a .gif on the clip sport? Thanks for all of the information you’ve already posted on the subject of album art.
