Here is one really simple minded idea to try:
Buy an audio “Y” adaptor connector (aka headphone splitter cable).
Then use two pairs of earbuds. Listen to one working bud from each pair.
It would be helpful for an audio expert to explain here how this problem was created and how to avoid.
