It makes sense if it is user adjustable, and the user is also capable of disabling it.

Pretty much this. I just bought a Clip, and I have the same concerns. The clip + was so much better. I am not opposed to the Jam but they really need to fix the glaring software issues with firmware updates.

Limits to what can be done, due to a limited computer chip inside.  All very depressing.

My Apple Nano  says low battery and so do my hearing aids. It wouldn't be too much to expect the same from Sansa.

Oh how I miss my Clip +, my very favorite device.
