32GB Sandisk Micro SD suddenly stopped being recognized by Galaxy S3 phone

I bought a 32GB micro SD card and instlled it in my phone on October 15, 2012.  Worked perfectly ever since.  Today, the phone reported that the SD card had been removed.  I checked and it is properly seated.  I put another card in it and it works properly, so the hone is not the problem.  I then tried it in the computer using the adapter and it failed to see the card.  After leaving it in the PC for several hours, I came back and found that it recognized the card.  I was able to copy date from it.  Tried it back in teh phone without success.  Then I reformatted it in the PC (full not a quick format which took quite a while).  I copied data back onto the card.  I inserted it into the phone again and it said that the card was blank, so I let the phone format it.  Now it is not recognized by the phone or the PC.  Any ideas how I might get it back, or is it a bust?

I experience the same problem today on the 7th - It was really frustrating because I had a lot of Christmas Videos and Pictures I had taken on my phone saved to that microSD card - My computer even have difficulty recognizing the SD adapter after I had placed the micro into it. I was able to recover a few photos because I had kept the micro in my phone and for a short period of time it recognized the external drive on my phone. While I was able to recover a few photos - Many copied over where everything but a small slim on the top of the picture was completely gray and then all of my videos would not play through Windows Movie Player or VLC - This is really dissapointing and from reading around I found that a lot of other people have experinced simular problems since late fall. The phone I had used the card for about 30ish days was a Samsung Galaxy S3 for Verizon. I would really appretiate it if I could recive some type of solution or even a response to this issue because it’s really frustrating to lose all those precious photos - I admit I should have backed them up asap onto my computer but I had no intention of experincing an issue like this - Ecspecially from a brand like SanDisc which I had believe to be extremly reputable.

I also had the same problem 32gb micro sd ultra card loaded about 1 gb of music on there from the microsd ADAPTER mp3 files put the card in my phone and i worked fine at first but the next morning it said card was not supported and then i tried putting it back on my computer with the adapter. And it will not recognize the card.  So now i am out the card that i paid for and all the movies and pictures we had on there which is why i bought the more expensive card in the first place.  For faster speeds and more storage.  I am wondering if they are going to do anything to fix this situation

I had the same problem with my Galaxy Note 2. The card also cannot now be recognised by either my PC or Macbook. Amazon offered to take the card back but since I cannot wipe the data off it, I decided against this option. Really disappointed as all previous Sandisk cards have worked well.

I have almost the exact same situation. My card is a 32gb UHS-I card. I tried all the things DaveHo tried. I also tried formatting the card as FAT-32, and that also did not help. Thankfully, I was able to get my pics/videos off the card via a card reader on my PC before it seems to have become useless. For now, I am using a 16gb Sandisk card in my GS3.

I will be trying a warranty replacement. Hopefully that goes well.

I have also had this problem, as have a lot of other Galaxy S3 (at least i9300 model) owners on the xda-developers forums.

It appears to affect other manufacturers as well, not just Sandisk.

I have had the same problem twice now, with a 32 gb card. Sandisk will replace it for free, but it happens every 3-4 weeks. They are sending me out a new one again, This is exactly what they said. I think it bad memory cards.

Hi Rick,

This problem should not occur again in the Samsung Galaxy S3. The issue with your phone is a unique case and its unfortunate that it has occurred more than once.

We apologize for the inconvenience caused.

I had the same problem twice now. They replaced it twice now for free but lost everything. I never had to backup my data from sandisk, each one only lasted 3-4 weeks. Both 32gb were purchased from walmart. I have not tried the new ones they send yet. maybe they fixed it. Can only hope so. This is what they said.

I had kind of the opposite problem. My new 32Gb Ultra card wasn’t recognized in any device except my Kocasio Tablet, which said it had 157 *megs* available. Using the adapter didn’t help. Then I tried one last device: a polaroid HD camera, with the adapter, and for some reason that got the card recognized. I immediately reformatted the card, and now it seems fine - recognized as 32GB in all devices and working (although it seems  a little slow) in my tablet. Is there any way to tell if these cards, which don’t seem to have serial numbers anymore (in the photo, anyway. Do they in reality still have them?) are counterfeit?

Sandisk may or may not be the world’s best, but this feeble attempt at ingratiation will not prevent your spam be being deleted and you banned from this site!

I purchased a 32Gb Ultra uSD back in December for my Galaxy Note II. It’s been running since then, but noticed last week it would spontaneously “unmount” and then the phone would see it and remount it. Now it shows up as a “Blank SD card”, but won’t even allow itself to be formatted by phone. It won’t even get recongized by any number of PC’s ( or my Mac ).

At this point, I think I need a warranty return, and just take it on the chin that I’ve lost all the pictures of family during the holidays.

Anyone else have any ideas ?

friends,
I am also facing same problem with my 32gb class 10 memcrd. it get frustrated when I see no content in card. I wonder sandisk could not trouble shoot this common problem. I get no messges or notification like others do. as my content goes invisible I see no memory card recognized. only notification I get is " checking for errors". but after few minutes I will recognize by itself. this problem repeats very frequently and this is most disgusting. I got off mem card connected to card reader and scanned in my computer system for errors,. but there was no errors found and also formatted (notquick) and placed again in my note 2 but this problem was still continued. I also formatted in ntfs in comp but after inserting in note 2 it could not recognize the format and automatically asked to format from note and it did successfully. here I thought the issue with mem card has resolved but after some time started the same. I regret I would had gone for samsung memory instead of the sandisk. so as I note see many of people facing same problem as me and now it is confirmed that this is not the problem from samsung galaxy note 2 but this moron SanDisk memory card. I only request the company to launch the bug fixer in way out of software and eliminate this issue.
