Open Registry Editor,
go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\USB.
Delete the Keys with the name or part of the name as "VID_0781" and "VID_0000" (without Quotes) in it.
Alternatively, try to find all the Items with VID_0781 in the registry. You can do that by Opening Registry(Start -> Run -> Regedit -> OK), go to Edit (Menu) and click on Find (CTRL + F3), type vid_0781 and delete all the keys which you get in the result. Keep searching by hitting the F3 Key (Find Next) to make sure all keys have been deleted. Then try to plug in your U3 Drive and check it.
NOTE: Please make a System Restore point before you touch registry to make sure we can make our system come to normal stage in case of any wrong keys deleted mistakenly.

There are certain applications which when running in Background, can make Launchpad not popping up automatically.
They can be CD/DVD buring applications (Nero, InCD, Roxio, RecordNOW, DLA, etc) or any appliaction requiring Music Library updates (MMJB, Media Players, etc)
Please make sure we close these kind of applications before plugging the USB drive into your computer.
Its better than playing with Registry or MSCONFIG.
