How much music do you have?

Here’s mine, which includes album art:

Are you bragging or complaining?

I’m really angry that I would put so much music on my computer. I’m seriously thinking of reporting myself to me.

I have no way of telling exactly how much music I have. It is on a few external drives (One of which is AWOL). But I have 110,000 active songs (Songs I actively listen to and add to my players). Out side of that I would guess maybe 100 gigs of music, although some of that is large uncompressed unedited 20 minute long or more jam sessions from my old band.

I’m really thinking about trimming down my collection to just MP3 and OGG. I have so many different DAPs that use a whole host of formats that this is how large my 737 songs files are. I’m content with MP3 and OGG, I can’t tell much difference anymore. But I will keep the template files, FLAC.

That is an obscene amount of music, Lewis. Do you have every album, cassette, and 8 track take you’ve ever purchased ripped into electronic format?!?!

lol

I have 1676 tracks, 11 GB.

Ha Ha… That’s funny.

Granted, I’m probably a lot older than most of you here and I’ve been collecting music for decades…but I’ve been busy either ripping all my CDs to FLAC or digitally restoring all of my vinyl, tape acetate, diamond discs etc and also preserving it in the digital domain.

I just filled up another TB drive, so another is on the way…At last count I have 6TB of primarily FLAC files and starting on the 7th TB!

I’m an avid music collector and spend most of my weekends going to estate sales to pick up more collections.  A couple of weeks ago I added about 5,000 more albums to my collection as I purchased them in a recent estate sale.

It should also be noted that I do restoration work for a living, so I have tons of clients material on hand all of the time that I frequently peruse…

I have a little over 23GB atm…of which about 2GB is FLAC…all told 4,300-ish songs, I think. The GB total would change if I re-ripped all my early rips to my now more demanding standards, but I doubt I will do ALL of them over.

I actually only have 737 songs among maybe 30 or 40 albums. But I have…actually had, now…a great many birates of all of those songs among most of the available formats…AAC, ALAC, APE, FLAC, MP3, MPC, OGG, WMA.That’s why such a large size. I have deleted all but MP3, OGG and some WMA. The FLAC remains because I use them as the source for conversion.

So what else do you have besides your nine Sansas Lewis? AAC and ALAC suggests an iPod, but I don’t know what players are capable of playing APE or MPC.

I actually have more than 30…I believe it’s closer to 60 now DAPs now. The COWON D2 will do APE. And the Rockbox DAPs will do MPC as well as every audio format ever created. I even have several China DAPs…a couple Teclasts and a Newsmy as well as a MobiBlu. Also a couple Meizu DAPs. I tell ya, though, if Meizu cleaned up the functionality of the miniPlaye, they’d have one of the best, if not the actual best, DAP ever created. The sound is amazing and the menu options are insane.

I finally listed all of the current DAPs I have. There’s actually 88 of them:

You’ve clearly been part of the DAP scene a lot longer than I have…and had more disposable income:wink: . So what would your 5 favorites be?

That’s tough because most of them aere outstanding. The off brands like the China DAPs and the Nextar and TrekStor and some of the other ones are on the low end of the totem pole. Nevertheless, the ones I like the best right now are:

1 - Apple iPod Nano 3G - for no other reason than it’s perfectly convenient in my line out rig because of size and shape.

  2 - Creative Zen Vision M - has line-out (sounds amazingly dynamic)

3 - Creative Zen Sleek - has line-out (also sounds amazing)

  4 - Sansung Q1

5 - Meizu miniPlayer - because of outstanding sound quality. Would be number one if the UI was refined.

The best of 10 would be:

6 - iriver Clix2 - The last great sounding iriver

7 - Sony NWZ-A818 - tweaked service menu makes this an sweet sounding, very dynamic DAP.

  8 - Creative Zen Mozaic

9 - Sansa Fuze - excellent UI and features

10 - Toshiba T-400 - superb sound

Take into account that my taste changes from time to time and depending on what I’m needing. The Nano is a classic example of taking the number one spot away from the D2 because the Nano has line out and because of its shape and the particular case I use it with, if fits my belt rig…amp and LOD…perfectly with as minimal as possible protrusion. I’m so pleased with the fit that, even though I have a 4G Nano, I’m wanting an additional 3G Nano for battery chaging rotation. I can simply slip the other 3G Nano right into the case I have afixed to the rig.

What firmware do you have on it?  I have the T1 model, but my battery is shot, so it lives in the car, where I can keep it plugged in.

I got mine early, and did a couple of f/w upgrades, but then just used it for a long time.  Did an upgrade just not long ago, and the UI was improved, I thought.

I wish the Fuze had some of it’s features.

2.004.6 - which, according to the last time I checked, was the latest FW.

There are some issues with library updating and video playback that needs refinement. There is no genre selection and using playlists is impossible with all of the media management programs I’ve used.

I updated the count of DAPs to 88 with the inclusion of a Creative Zen Vision M and Zen Sleek, which I just received today.

I have a few of those as well; but they seem like tanks compared to my Sansas.  I rarely use them anymore…

The both do line-out. The little dongle that came with your ZVM has a miniplug jack you can run to a portable amp and get better sound quality. That dongle will work with the Sleek as well. That’s the specific reason I bought these latest two Creatives, for the Line-Out functionality. I have a custom LOD, though.

By the way, since you are a ZVM owner, have a gander at this. It will lead you to a restoration process if you have any superficial scratches on your ZVM. It works well with Sansas too: epizenter.net - epizenter Resources and Information.

I have a home studio, so I really don’t need the line out capability with any of my portables…got 8 Altec-Lansing Voice of the Theater speakers!!!  2 in the studio and the remaining 6 throughout the house.  I just use the original source material instead of using the files on my portables. Luckily, I live about 1/2 from my nearest neighbor, so we don’t get reported for noise violations!!!  :smileyvery-happy:

I dunno.  I must be overly careful…but I’ve always put a protective skin on all my players the instant I get them, so none of them have any scratches at all…

But, thanks for the info!!!
