I can think of numerous instances where this is simply not true. There is no guarantee from anyone (stated, assumed or implied) that a product or service will be better than whatever predecessor may have come before it.

Case in point, Windows Vista vs. its predecessor, XP. People couldn’t bail off of Vista fast enough, yet millions of people are still using XP. Or (staying with MicroSoft) how 'bout Windows 2000 or ME vs. Windows 3.1?
