Check the cable connectors as suggested. Found cable side connector had 2 pins covered with green corrosion. UNPLUG CABLE and/or REMOVE BATTERY before cleaning contacts with metal tool to avoid shortcircuiting device or usb cable/port. Voila as the French say: plugged back in - there it is. Thanx for advice.
