I understand that e200 units are supposed to be a hard metal alloy (advertised as titanium), but I’ve noticed that some covers have a dull, satin texture, whereas others have a polished metal appearance. The polished ones with scratches visible must be the titanium covers, but are the satin covers also metal? Are all e200 covers made of metal, or are some plastic?
Any input is greatly appreciated.

All metal that as far as I know. The Rhapsody models I’ve seen have that dull, fugly, unfinished-looking one that is really cheesy, in my opinion.
The original v1 e200 series had LiquidMetal backs that were Uber-cool indeed. No one’s lettin’ go of any of those now though. I’ve seen pictures of backs that people have modded with acryllic paint, wrinkle finish or chrome-plating that look really sweet!

Another thing I noticed is that the item description for the e200 either describes the cover as “titanium” or “durable alloy metal.” Titanium is a pretty expensive metal, so I wouldn’t be surprised if they switched materials later in the runs. If they did, though, the titanium versions would be more durable than the newer ones. Apart from the ones pictured here, there’s also one that has a high polish that usually also has scratches, which I assumed is titanium because it scratches relatively easy. I assume that’s the “liquid metal” version?
Altogether, I’ve been able to identify 3 types: polish metal (presumably titanium), satin metal (either titanium or some other metal (pictured above)), and painted (either metal or plastic). The ones that have painted covers are usually advertised with mention of the paint chipping here and there. I really suspect the painted covers possibly being non-metal… I mean, why else would it need paint?

I seriously doubt that any are actually titanium. The cost would be through the roof. The painted ones are only ones that people have modded themselves. And I’ve never seen or heard of one that didn’t have a metal alloy back.
There’s only one LiquidMetal when it comes to the e200 Sansa. The version 1 machines originally were equipped with the coolest metal back. It’s very hard to scratch, and the genuine article has the Liquidmetal logo on it.
Oh, and as in the demonstration, you can dance a BB on the Liquidmetal back, and see the difference compared against the later covers. Very cool indeed.
The Rhapsody Sansas were shipped with a “bead blast” look case, dull grey.
The v2 devices have a bizarre dark coppery color metal case.

Did the V1 come out in sequential order of capacity, or did they come out in all capacities at once? Also, do the V2 models have that printed on the bottom corner of the cover like the c200 V2?
where is the liquid metal logo in the back?
