You might have some gunk inside on the scroll wheel contacts. You could try blowing some compressed air into it (they sell small cans of it). There was some nice directions on disassembly and cleaning, complete with picutres that someone posted on his website, but I just checked and the site is down now. You might google around to see if you can find any others.
