I have a Sansa m230, out of warranty as of April 2007.
I’ve already gotten it RMA-ed once.
I let my brother borrow it and for some reason I took it back and now it randomly shuts itself off.
I’ve changed its battery, still it does so.
is this something remediable by a setting?
I am NOT willing to spend seventy-something dollars to get a new one.
So, help?
When you connect it to your computer, is it recognized? Can you access it with Explorer?

Yep.
I can transfer music on and off of it.
it just seems to act funny now.
When i set power off to 5 minutes
it literally shuts off in 5 minutes,
listening to music or not.
My son is having a similar problem with his m240. We have not found a solution, yet.
I used to have the same problem, but it stopped after I put in fresh batteries I think it just needs a lot of power to run… But about the power off in 5 minutes part - it’s actually supposed to do that, even if you are listening to music at the time. I used to set it to 20 minutes or something and fall asleep, and it would turn off automatically :D. Did you try changing the sleep setting? That way, if the music stops, the MP3 Player will turn off after whichever time you set, so the batteries aren’t wasted.
