No Bookmarking & Folderview...I'm a SAD Panda

Well, The New Fuze+ is a FAIL due to the NO bookmarking & NO folderview, Sorry moving on to the Creative ZEN 16gig that has both.

While I agree that the Fuze+ is a disappointment, I think you’ll find the Zen will be one also. It won’t sound as good, and the card slot does not integrate with the internal memory like Sansas do.

Well said Marvin. His best choice is to buy a Fuze. The original one. While the Fuze+ is better than the Fuze at video, in terms of overall usability the old Fuze seems much better than the plus.

Many seem to be upset about the lack of folder browsing on the Fuze+. The inability to pause or restart the player while the touch controls are locked is what makes the Fuze+ seem impractical for me. I guess these two issues could be corrected with firmware updates, however Sandisk has to want to address these issues. Those who listen to podcasts or audiobooks while walking around need a way to quickly pause or restart the player without having to take ot out of a pocket, unlock it, pause or restart it,  lock it again, then put it back in a pocket. Some other touch sensitive players use a tactile button for play/pause, so the player can be paused or restarted without having to remove it from a pocket.

With a “touch” it needs to lock.  Or every time it touches something it will do something you don’t want it to do.  I have a touch cell phone and I lock mine after I’m done instead of waiting for it to lock by itself just in case I touch something else (usually hit the search button).  I actually switched from open face phones to flip phones because my phone would speed dial someone… once it fell off the seat and turned on and stayed on for some reason, by the time I got home the battery was dead.  I didn’t like the lock on them, but found it was there for a reason.  This has a lock for the same reason.  Maybe you’re perfect and it wouldn’t happen to you, but it has for me.

"With a “touch” it needs to lock. "

Of course, but the favorite tochscreen or touchpad players have a few tactile buttons so the player can  pause/play, and a few other functions while keeping the player is locked.

OK,… The LOCK should be a slide button like the old way with the POWER (easy), … The ONLY reason I’m getting a Zen is for the bookmarking due to the way i use these players mostly 80% for AUDIO BOOKS, …The sound on either the Fuse V2 or the 4gig Zen is the same at 320K or VBR (prove me wrong please)

If three people i know, burned out the wheels on multiply Fuse V1 & 2 units due to heavy usage (i have owned 5 fuse V2 units myself) and were loyal to the brand because of simple easy design features, why are they mad as hell about the hold no responding correctly?, the SD card load time takes forever after a 4 gig or better card, and again no bookmarks or folder view. those loyal 3 people left the room & have went to either ZEN or i pod.

These design changes in the new FUSE+ must be to due to cost factors at production per unit. How much does it add to the R&D to include MULTIPLY  Bookmarking & Folder view in the firmware, why do we have to wait to Rock Box completes there V2 Firmware for the FUSE.

I’m not mad at sansa, just very dumbfounded about the new FUSE+ unit, it sounds as good as the old one (same chips i think) & has a bigger screen… ok, but WHO IN THERE RIGHT MIND is going to watch a movie on a tiny screen and get a headache? C’mon

Brhartin, AFAIK tthe other brand of players you mentioned doesn’t integrate card memory with main memory, and doesn’t allow bookmarks for files on card memory. That other brand also doesn’t have a separate place for podcasts and audiobooks, so if you try to shuffle all your songs, you will get podcast and audiobook files mixed in.

The Clip+ and Fuze work well for podcasts and audiobooks. The autoresume feature is very nice. The Fuze+ doesn’t seem like a good choice for listening to podcasts or audiobooks while walking around, since the player can’t be paused or restarted while the touch controls are locked. If you are tired of the Fuze, then go for a Clip+.

Audiobooks and Podcasts? That feature is useless if you TAG your files correct, under artist if i have a audiobook it is tagged under ARTIST as AUDIOBOOK & ALBUM is the name of the book, so this created a folder for audiobook and sub folders for whatever book you have… all this can be done without the seperate spots for X Y Z,  just tag the files correctly.

The Memory SD card is nice & quick on the V1,2 of the FUSE but not the current NEW one, because of the DB read time not saving the Summary card data to memory and having to  rereading every time it is shut down, making it slow to load on a 16 or 32Gig card…if the card is in all the time all the time WHY is this a issue?.. i dred to shut down the fuse because of this (and i have tried it on 3 NEW fuse+ with the load times…too slow up to 3-5 min depening on the card brand.)

Autoresume is NOT bookmarking, can you autoresume 4 diffrent audiobooks or music files… No you cannot, only one at a time.

The autoresume feature for the Clip+ and Fuze remembers the place in all partially played podcast or audiobook files. When you go to play them again, the player asks if you want to resure or start at the beginning. The player deems a file an audiobook or podcast if the genre is audiobook or podcast, or if the file is in the audiobooks or podcasts folder on the player. In fact, if you are playing an album of podcasts via the podcast submenu, then some music, the player will not only remember the place in the prtially played podcast, but also which file in the album was playing last. Of course this assumes your podcasts are tagged.

It should not matter how the files are tagged (on the FUSE +) i tag all files to load in the music folder because i have other players that have folder view also and that creates AUDIOBOOK top folder (or) METAL, 80’s, ECT and sub folders of the titles…   Books : (Artist: Audiobook, Genre: Audiobook, Album: Title,  Artist: Audiobook)  music : ( Artist: Artist, Genre: Genre, Album: Title, Artist: Artist)

The point is, if i want to auto resume 4 audiobooks or music files and see where it resumes from it cannot be done, auto resuming is nice but again you cannot mark for resuming two spots in a audiobook/music if the audiobook/music is in a single file no matter what the tagging is and it should not matter if it is tagged music or audiobook.

Many times if i pause and shut down it will resume from the spot it paused, BUT if you pause, shutdown, then go to something diffrent than the auto resume will be lost if you go back to the previous file no mater what it is book or music.

“Many times if i pause and shut down it will resume from the spot it paused, BUT if you pause, shutdown, then go to something diffrent than the auto resume will be lost if you go back to the previous file no mater what it is book or music.”

That is not how the Fuze+ is supposed to work. It is supposed to have autoresume for all partially played audiobook or podcast files. It is a known issue and they plan to fix it.

But it does indeed. Not having Folder view/navigation like it’s older brother (original Fuze), this player is strictly tag-based. Who knows; they may add Folder Nav in a future firmware update like they did on the Fuze, but until then your choices are:

  1. Properly tag you files.
  2. Suffer & be miserable because you don’t want to properly tag your files.
  3. Gripe & whine about having to properly tag your files.
  4. Get another player where ID3 tags are not as big an issue.

First of all, the whole concept of “tag your files properly” is pure BS.  You shouldn’t have to do that to use a mp3 player.

That being said, my files ARE properly tagged but here is where the lack of folder support causes the player to fall catastrophically on its azz:

I have two folders.  Very large ones - we’re talking at least 7Gb each.  Each one has several hundred files in it.  All poperly tagged.  All from DIFFERENT ALBUMS.  One folder is Chillout.  The other is 80s Dance.  80’s Dance has Hi-NRG, Synthpop, New Wave, Eurodance and several other genres.  Chillout similaly has multiple genres.  I DON’T WANT PLAYBACK MIXED BETWEEN THE TWO FOLDERS.

If I put both folders on the player and want to play the chillout album ONLY, I would - using the retarded mindset behind the player firmware design - have to REMOVE the CORRECT ALBUM TAGGING on the files and replace it with something stupidly mundane like “Chillout”.  I’d also have to do something similar with the contents of the 80s Dance folder.  Somehow that oh-so-simple concept of use escaped the trained (or rather untrained) chimps who designed the Fuze+ firmware and who deigned to remocve the folder support that had been added to the original Fuze which permits just such an occurrence.

Gawd, the simplicity of the above is so blatantly obvious that it ■■■■■ slaps one across the face.  Hell, oh I don’t know, RADIO employs this concept EVERY DAY.

Yes, but this would only take a few minutes. If the Fuze+ was in MSC mode, you could access your chillout folder with MP3Tag and change the genre of everything in that folder in one fell swoop, to “chillout”, without it changing on your original files on your computer. You could then repeat the process with your 80’s dance folder. Not that difficult at all.

While I do agree with you that folder support should be in the player, you are really getting a little bit too stressed out over it.

ROJ, why don’t you use the genre tag for this? Those files in your chillout folder cobe given the chillout genre, and the in the 80s folder could be given the genre 80s.

easiest solution for this would be to create 2 playlists. just open WMP drag the first folder to WMP and create play list sync tat to the player then to the second one. now you have 2 playlists that will only play what you want. pretty easy solution.

I’m sorry but NO.

I *properly* tagged my files (with mp3tag, by the way), I do use MSC (I hate applications “managing” my players) and will NOT change the PROPER tagging information just because some stupid chimp can’t design and implement proper usabiluity that a mentally challenged flea could grasp.

And actually, this ain’t stressed.  This is my normal modus operandi.  Stressed is an entirely different animal.  I just don’t suffer fools or foolishness gladly (I’m an IT Security analyst by profession and in this biz, examples of that are legion).  When things are executed with intelligence, I am ther soul of sweetness and light.

Sandisk just desperately needs to get a clue.

Thanks but as I already pointed out in the original post, I’m using the Genre for the correct genre of each song, be it Nu Jazz, Chillout, Lo-Fi or whatever.  A type of music is a type of music.  Intelligent firmware design is intelligent firmware design.

WMP???

AAAAUUUUGGGHHHHH!!!

I just lost my cookies.

However, the idea has some merit if Foobar2000 (is there any surprise that this example of terminal excellence is what I use for a player?) can do that…
