After overnight recharge, Sansa Fuze + endlessly LOOPS through "loading" graphics

Is it really true that charging Fuze+ for more than 3 hours causes the batteries to lose the charge or, even worse, damages the batteries? This doesn’t happen with any other modern devices I’ve owned or operated. I’d like a SanDisk’s rep to answer this.
