Security disables flash drive

I was logging onto my Cruzer Micro 4GB when an error message popped up on my screen stating that because I had exceeded the number of incorrect password attempts, the flash drive would be disabled for security reasons. It gave me the option of proceeding, or dealing with the issue later. I chose to deal with the issue later, fearful that I would permanently disable the drive. Now I wish to know how to proceed so that I can preserve my data. Also, I am concerned that an outside source was attempting to hack my password, since I had only made one password attempt. Any clues? Is my drive now worthless?
