Try running a CHKDSK command on the flash drive. You may have removed it before Windows finished updating its FAT.
I had it solely on this stick.
Important things need backups. A password protected ZIP file on your hard drive would work for a backup. Hopefully the CHKDSK command solves the flash drive problem.
