Your password is invalid? It may have been too long!

Hi all, I just discovered on my My Passport Ultra that the maximum password length is 25 characters. But it won’t warn you if you try to set a password which is longer! I had just set a nice long sentence as a password, and then tried to unlock my drive but ‘Password invalid’. Even though I was copy/pasting it. Turns out that when you create your password, it won’t tell you if you are typing in a longer password than 25 characters. It will just only keep the first 25. (BAD password dialog design). So if you have a long password, and your device tells you it’s invalid, try typing in only the first 25 characters.

Thank you for sharing this.

Which version of WD Security do you use? It’s possible this may have been addressed in a newer release past your unit’s production date.

WD Security 1.3.0.18 - ‘no update available’. So still to be fixed I reckon.

This is still not fixed as on update 1.4.3.37. WD- When can we expect an update that fixes this problem; I like using WD Security given how lightweight it is, but the undocumented 25 character limit that you aren’t told off at ANY stage of using WD Security is frustrating to say the least.

Same issue with my new Passport here - pretty lame bug that ought to be easy to fix. I updated WD discovery and installed WD security. Mine says version 1.4.3.13.
I used a long randomly generated password and the drive wouldn’t unlock. Cropped it to the first 25 characters and the drive unlocks.
