My 750Gb passport drive refuses to be recognised in “My Computer”. In disk management it’s recognised but “unallocated” I’ve tried to initialize the drive with no joy. Kept getting a write protected error. After reading threads on this I have tried editing the registry keys, different computers, different cables… with no outcome…

Try deleting the driver disconnect safely reboot system and plug back in. Sometimes a corrupt driver is the cause. You can try this some people have had sucess if partition data is corrupt http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk
