I have a WD Passport that was working fine until I just rebooted my computer. I also have another external drive that quit working. The second drive is using the HFS files system and I have HFS drivers for Windows 7.
I can plug the NTFS formatted drive into another laptop and it works with no problem. I can also plug USB Keys and a little 250 MB USB drive I have into the same USB port on the laptop where the drive isn’t working and they all work.
Disk management shows the partition as healthy, but it doesn’t show the volume label anymore. If I try to assign it a drive letter, it tells me the system cannot find the file specified.
I have a seagate external HD doing the exact same thing…
I would recommend verifying compatibility or updates related to the manufacturer of the custom drivers in case they need to be changed or re-installed as Microsoft Windows 7 does not feature native HFS support.
I have 3 external drives that are all behaving the same way. 2 WD’s and one Seagate. I formatted one of the WD’s NTFS and it STILL won’t get a drive letter.
