In haste I accepted the Windows 10 u/grade offer. After a few days I reverted to W-8.1, because of major privacy concerns.
Smartware no longer works. I tried un/re-install but cannot complete the install. I get the following error message initially:
"The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable.
Click OK to try again or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package ‘WD Smartware Setup (x64).msi’ in the box below.
C:\ProgramData\Package Cache{E0223E66-5682-4F65-9F5D-A2AB7C593323}v2.4.11.4"
Pressing cancel then produces the following:
“The older version of WD Smartware cannot be removed. Contact your support group”
I need help with this please.
Hi,
Try downloading the version directly from the WD Site.
Link to software:
http://www.wdc.com/wdproducts/wdsmartwareupdate/nas.asp
Already tried that with the result explained in original post
I’m bumping this because I still do not have a solution.
The installer reports that it is unable to complete the uninstall of the earlier version

I hit pretty much the same problem with Norton Internet Security. That was cured by using the Nortan removal tool.
Looks to me like WD need something similar - or at least clear instructions on how to remove the software (and any remnants, registry-entries etc) completely.
