Hi. My WD cannot see my Router(TimeCapsule) ?
The Passport Wireless is operating on 2.4 GHz. It should “see” any wireless on this frequency if the SSID of this Wifi is shown.
Hi Joerg.
My router is running on 2,4 Ghz. but it dosent see it ???
Hi Soren
the SSID is not hidden, correct?
I have the same problem. I’m in a household that stands in the middle of dozens of wifi networks, so sometimes i have to reboot my router in order for it to find a better broadcasting channel. I even have the same trouble with my laptop, I have to stand in a particular spot to connect. However my Passport Wireless doesn’t find the wifi network at all… It is very frustrating.
Is there anything I can do in my router so that my WD can find the wifi network? Which are the better wifi settings (channel, frequency, and so on)?
Wi-Fi can be subject to many problems, and for most there are cures. and based on your particular issue, I can say:.
You should not have to reboot your router to get a decent Wi-Fi connection if it is working properly. You CAN find the best channel to be on AND set your router to always use it. To do so, it helps to have an android phone or tablet (includes Kindle), because: There is a free app called Wi-Fi Analyzer that displays all the 2.4G or 5G signals around you; their strength and the channels they use. You select the least used to get on (weak signals on display don’t really count as a problem). You then set your router to permanently use the channel you select. It is best to do this in the evening when most routers are turned on. And recheck for a few evenings so you are sure to see all nearly signals.
BTW, there is not a version of Wi-Fi Analyzer for iOS, although there is a very similar program for Macs and Win PCs called inSSIDer that can be installed on laptops that one can take around the house with a bit more effort than a phone or tablet to do the job of finding the signals.
The best channels to be on are either 1, 6 or 11, and, of course, are the most crowded. Nevertheless, there is less side-band interference on 1 or 11 and 6 is in the “sweet spot” of the band,
I’m in a neighborhood of houses, not apartments, so I have more space between me and the neighbors. The three best bands are well-occupied, but the weaker signals near me happen to be on 6, not 1 or 11. So, I have selected channel 6 to always be on. I could use auto-select, but since always being on 6 works great for me, I don’t need auto-select mode.
It also helps that I have a dual-band router, and there is lots of signal room there, so our mobile devices are fixed on the 5G signal – my mobile devices have been set to “forget” our 2.4G signal, and only a very few stationary gadgets use it at our house today.
You must have a somewhat weak Wi-Fi signal if you need to stand in a certain spot. Is your router centrally located, or in some far corner of your house. Best if centrally located. A new high quality router always helps, too, if you haven’t bought a new one in a while.
There is lots more to Wi-Fi science, but this info should help out a lot.
