Why is this device such a pain in the butt?

Let’s see what all problems this 1gb express has given me… locks up trying to refresh an SD card, can reformat the card, but then won’t show up on the computer, it used to be able to transfer music to the sd card via the player, but then won’t play any music from the sd card.

I’ve also had lots of problems with my 8gb view…wont’ recognize music from an sd card that previously played in an express, short battery life, locks up when trying to delete songs, locks up when forwarding to another song, takes minutes to refresh current song information after forwarding to another song, pain in the ass to load pics and standard vids.

now neither of my devices will work.

i’m almost tempted to just either buy another brand player and forever stay away from sansa, go back to the old school days of using CD’s, or just go back to listning to satellite radio.

In conclusion sansa…your consumers should never have to be frustrated with your products and go through these fix actions. Your devices should already be tested over and over again with all the bugs worked out before you market them. heck, before you even announce a future release date!!!

DITTO!

This little thing is such a pain in the butt. I bought it use while running and biking. The size is great for what I want but operation is just a pain in the butt!

The Express is the second-worst player SanDisk ever made, IMO. The View is the third. They both take a back seat to the Cruzer Micro MP3 Companion.

And what company is going to take the time to test when they have to be the first to get their niche player on the market? The m200 was pushed out so fast they forgot to put the MODEL NUMBER on it.

That’s incredible but I’ll give credit where credit’s due.  I imagine it takes some kind of specialised skill to make a player that’s worse than the express!

“Pain in the butt” is putting it mildly.  I don’t think I know anyone who has to put anything like the amount of time and effort I had to to get the express working properly to an almost adequate level.

I’d try and make a list of every problem the player has but it would probably take me too long and I’ve spent enough time on it.  I only visit this site now in the hope that one day someone will post some magical solution (i.e. an alternate firmware) for the player.

It needed a Cruzer Micro to turn on. And it had to be a Cruzer Micro that was less than 1gb, or had the special 1gb firmware, or it wouldn’t work. And you had to have a compatible Micro to get the blasted thing to even show you what firmware it had. And it had to be a Cruzer Micro, nothing else would fit. Oh, and the battery door broke and came off all the time - design flaw they’d never admit to. On top of all that, the piece of junk was the size of your fist and ugly and had a tiny little screen.

SanDisk prefers to pretend they never made it. their only defense is that it was their first mp3 player and they had NO FARKING CLUE what they were doing.

good thing i bought the $5 officemax insurance :stuck_out_tongue:

I dont know if my model will suffer such problems as described here… *hopefully* the only rant I have is the inablity to transfer data files to the drive…

My SE was acting squirelly at first.  But three things have changed things for the better:

  1. Download and install Windows Media Player 11.  This will automatically add the requisite Windows XP drivers.

  1. Download and install Windows Media Player 11.  This will automatically add the requisite Windows XP drivers.

  2. Download and run Sansa Updater.  This will install SE version 1.01.12A

  3. Make sure you fully charge the unit and then really get to know how to navigate and use all the menus thoroughly.

I could have saved myself some initial pain in the butt if I had done these three things from the start.  Hope this helps all.
