I would like to know which hard disk is inside the 2TB model (rpm, sata, etc.).
Thank you.

I can’t answer the question for you, but I am curious: Why does it matter? Are you planning on taking the disk out of one and using it in another method?
No. I was planning the other way round, i.e., to change the 500gb with an old 2tb mypassport hard drive… do you think it is possible?
I don’t know either but it may not have a standard SATA connector but a proprietary one instead.
I doubt it’d physically fit. The 2TB drives are much thicker than most 500GB drives.
And according to: http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.aspx?id=1330#Tab3
… the MPW cases are sized for the hard drive that’s inside.
Thanks for tour suggestions. I thought the three models had the same thickness… and WD 2.5" models do not show great differences in thickness between models.
Anyways, I knew about the possibility of proprietary connector, and even about WD encrypting some drives… just wanted to clear this before even opening up this cute little drive.

Huh? The 2TB Green is 3 times thicker (15mm) than the 500GB Blue (5mm).

If you already have one, you can probably SSH into it and do an HDPARM command and find exactly what drive it is.

We sell a 2TB model and it is slightly thicker. We also custom tune the HDDs in side to work best in this application. I know some users on these boards have tinkered with other model drives in this fashion, but this product is totally different and I would advise against it since it there is almost a 100% chance that it will not work.
As far as I know, a 500GB MPW is not even on the market yet. Announced, yes, but vapor ware at the moment. If you need 2B, then buy that one. a few years from now it won’t matter to you, and besides, dinking with the innards is not adviseable and would void your warranty. The MPW has a two year warranty, BTW.
