Western Digital Elements External Driv 1TB 2.0 USB - USB Input Broken

Hi all,

My USB input broke, and I am trying to connect it to my computer to get the data off with a 2.5" SATA to 3.0 USB cord, but my computer is not reading the data from the drive. The driver and the hardware show up, but I cannot access any of the data. I have Windows 8 on my current computer, but I tried it with another computer that has Vista and it still won’t work.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Thanks,

Andrew

Welcome to the Community.

Is the hard drive detected on Disk Management, or is it not detected at all? Some USB 3.0 adapters need additional power vs. USB 2.0.

It is not detected at all on disk management but it is detected on device manager. I just can’t access anything.

If the hard drive is not on disk management then the storage volume that holds the data is not being recognized, just the USB connection itself. There could be a problem with the logic board.

So if there is a problem with the logic board, would I need to send it in somewhere to get the data extracted? Or is there a way I can access the data on my own?

Thanks for the help so far!
